What to Expect From Your NOLS Hybrid WFR Course

The Hybrid WFR combines 3 modules of online learning with 5 days of in-person training. You’ll begin by completing work in an online platform that includes readings, videos and quizzes. Each module requires 10 to 15 hours to complete, and you’ll need to finish them before the in-person portion begins. The 5-day in-person course will focus on skills and scenarios.


You'll learn both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather, so come prepared for wet, muddy, cold, or hot environments!


Arrival & Schedule:

  • Please arrive by 7:45 AM on Day 1 for check-in

  • In person classes are taught from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily with an hour for lunch.

  • Day 3 has an additional evening session.

    • Meals and lodging packages are not available for this course.

    • 5 minutes drive from the venue there are many grocery stores and food options.

    • A cafe offering a variety of food and beverages is located inside the Visitor Center

  • Travel Directions:

    • The venue is a 30-45 min drive north of downtown Chicago and a 25-30 min drive northeast of O'Hare International Airport.


  • Parking Lot 5 and 6:

    • We will provide QR code that can be used by event attendees, granting them free admission and parking for the event. Park in lots 5 or 6 unless you require an accessible parking space in front of the building

This course is approved for 3 college credits through the University of Utah and 3 college credits through Western Colorado University.


Course Approval

This course is recognized by theAmerican Camp Association to meet specific ACA standards requiring certifications. The course meets the  Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid training requirements.
